An improved economy and a snow-filled season are benefiting Idaho's skiing resorts, as operators there have filled up lifts earlier than usual and are on pace to set new visitor records in some cases. Late-season snowfall has extended the season at resorts like Brundage Mountain and Sun Valley. Brundage, for example, plans to stay open through the fist weekend of May.

Bogus Basin resort north of Boise is shutting down this week, though, with it's final-day celebration capping a great season. Resorts like Schweitzer and Sandpoint reported that visitor totals were on par with last year, but that skiers seemed more willing to spend on food, beverages and other concessions due to an improving economy. The results from the smaller resorts like Pomerelle and Pebble Creak were mixed, with many reporting only average years.

Bled Castle is a symbol of Slovenia, and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions for vacations including nearby ski holidays in Slovenia. The castle sits on a steep cliff and offers striking vistas, as well as a long history that never fails to impress. This year, in fact, the castle is celebrating 1,000 years of existence. The Bled Castle, which is perched 130 meters above a striking lake, was first written about in 1004 AD when King Henry II of Germany donated the Bled estate to the Bishopric of Brixen. Since then it has changed owners many times, and today attracts thousands of visitors each year. Slovenia was formerly a part of Yugoslavia, and since independence it has become an ever more popular tourist destination. Visitors come during the winter to enjoy the beautiful scenery and great skiing, while hikers and bikers enjoy summer visits to the miles of lovely trails.

CairnGorm Mountain is one of the ski resorts in Scotland reporting a great season, with more than 120,000 skiers and snowboarders hitting its slopes this winter. It has been more than 15 years since it has had two successive seasons with this high number of visitors.

The resort, located near Aviemore, said that the early start to the season and late close had much to do with the good numbers. The resort saw twice as many skiers in November and December as the previous year. The early heavy snowfall in many parts of the country helped to draw public attention throughout the UK to the quality of skiing that can be enjoyed at Scotland's five ski resorts, which include Glencoe, Glenshee, Nevis Range and The Lecht. The early snowfall led Glencoe resort to open before Christmas for the first time in 10 years.
